With the development of economy and improvement of people's living standards, the quality of the air has attracted a lot of attention. Especially particle matter attracted most attention as one of the important pollutants in atmosphere in recent years. Research shows that the increase of lung disease and cardiovascular disease is related to the increase of particle concentration, if the inhalable particles (PM10) increase by 10%, lung function will decrease by 1%, the risk of having various respiratory diseases will increase by 10% ,such as cough, asthma and so on.Therefore, monitoring of particle concentration is very necessary.
Currently, particle sensors commonly use optical principle to measure particle size and mass concentration. Compared with infrared LED sensors, laser particle sensors are widely used in air purifiers, air quality detectors, HVAC systems for they have higher accuracy to monitor the indoor particle concentration in real-time. But the research shows that the percent of the outdoor PM2.5 and PM10 monitor reaches to 76% and 66% compared with indoor PM2.5 and PM10 when there are no significant indoor pollution sources. So it’s totally not enough only monitoring and purifying indoor particle concentration, purifying outdoor airquality also very important. Laser technology particle sensor also is the basis of the measurement.
Grid-enabled monitoring of outdoor particle
The key point of outdoor particle pollution management is to find out the source of pollution. The implement of grid management all over the city (including construction sites, roads, large commercial districts, industrial parks, residential areas, etc.) is the main way to manage the pollution. With wide range and high-density grid equipment base, these equipment monitor each place particle concentration’s variation and send the data to the platform in real time. So the EPA department can figure out the pollution source and the monitored environment indication accurately.
The demand on particle sensors is huge in grid monitoring. There are some professional articles which named The Technical Requirements and Detection Guidelines for Grid Monitoringof PM2.5 (trail version) and Technical Requirements and Detection Methods ofGrid Monitoring System for Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution issued by Hebei province, China showed that the light scattering technology should be used to monitor the particle pollution situation continuously and automatically. At the same time, the range of measurement, accuracy, working temperature and humidity will be stipulated when monitoring.
Outdoor laser particle sensor's emergence
The traditional indoor laser particle sensor has poor accuracy on PM10 in applications. But it cannot meet the requirements in grid monitoring. In this regard, Cubic own R&D team developed a new outdoor laser particle sensor module PM3006 with independent intellectual property technology-API (Auto Particle Identification) technology.PM3006 uses laser scattering technology and integrates 6 channels detector for detecting 0.3μm, 0.5μm, 1.0μm, 2.5μm, 5.0μm and10μm size . It can simultaneously output PM1.0 PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentration by mathematical algorithm and scientific calibration. The new patented technology also ensures the sensitivity and response speed of the sensor.
High accuracy and low inconsistency
The particle sensor’s accuracy and consistency are the key in grid monitoring. With poor accuracy and unstable quality sensor, the monitoring data on particle output will be inaccurate and the relative comprehensive management will be affected also.
So Cubic uses smaller airflow nozzles and micro-turbine fans in PM3006. The constant speed of micro-turbo fans keeps the airflow stable when it passes through it to ensure the accuracy of PM1.0, PM2.5and PM10. Cubic also make technological innovations to ensure the sensor's accuracy under different temperature and humidity condition.
In addition, Cubic tested many PM3006 and the results showed that PM3006 output are highly consistent with the standard equipment (GRIMM) . The accuracy of PM1.0 and PM2.5 detection data is ±10% and PM10 is ±15%, which indicates that PM3006 has high accuracy and consistency . It meets the above grid monitoring requirements.
