Carbon monoxide (CO) is a potential risk for residents. It is colorless, odorless, and highly toxic. CO poisoning occurs when fuel or gas combustion of residential gas furnaces and boilers is incomplete, leading to the production of the harmful CO gas. In residential spaces, CO can leak into home living spaces through exhaust systems, posing a significant health risk to occupants.
According to recent report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), it shows that the annual average estimated non-fire carbon monoxide poisoning deaths associated with heating systems reached 66, with 23 deaths associated with furnaces and boilers.
Aiming to address the CO poisoning risk of injury and death associated with residential gas fired central furnaces, boilers, wall furnaces, and floor furnaces (gas furnaces and boilers), the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently proposed a new rule that requires all residential gas furnaces and boilers to, either directly or indirectly, continuously monitor the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) produced during the combustion process.
According to the general requirement from the proposed rule, “…all residential gas furnaces and boilers must have a means to either directly or indirectly monitor the concentration of carbon monoxide produced during the combustion process and shut down or modulate combustion to reduce average CO concentrations to below the CO levels for the durations of time specified in proposed section 1408.3(b). The gas furnace or boiler must either shut down or modulate combustion to reduce average CO emissions to below 150 ppm if the average CO emissions reach or exceed the CO limits and time durations specified in section 1408.3(b).”, it revealed the application of CO sensors for gas furnaces and boilers can help monitor indoor CO leakage and control the combustion process.
Having realized the importance of CO sensor in residential gas furnaces and boilers, Cubic, the leading manufacturer of gas sensors and gas analyzers, has leveraged electrochemical technology and developed the advanced CO sensor, ECO-5011A-001, capable for residential CO leakage monitoring.
Cubic ECO-5011A-001 is a state-of-the-art carbon monoxide (CO) sensor that leverages advanced electrochemical technology to provide precise and reliable CO detection. With an impressive measurement range of 0 to 1000ppm and outstanding accuracy, it ensures the accurate detection of CO level of safety for residential gas appliances.
Designed for high temperature condition of gas furnaces and boilers, Cubic ECO-5011A-001 operates efficiently in a wide temperature range from -20℃ to 70℃ and can be safely stored between -40℃ and 85℃. Additionally, it could achieve a long lifespan of up to 10 years, significantly reducing the need for frequent replacements and ensuring long-term application.
Cubic ECO-5011A-001 also features minimal zero drift, maintaining stability and reliability throughout its lifespan. Moreover, Cubic electrochemical CO sensor is certified by UL2075 safety standards, making it a dependable choice for CO detection.
