As governments and cities worldwide intensify efforts to address air pollution and urbanization challenges, environmental monitoring has become a core element of modern urban management. In India, the Smart Cities Mission plays a important role by integrating air-quality data into urban governance through Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCCs), providing a unified digital platform for real-time monitoring and decision-making. In addition, the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) defines city-level clean-air improvement objectives and mandates air-quality monitoring across more than 100 cities. The scope of required pollutants and compliance benchmarks under NCAP is specified by the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), which establish standardized monitoring requirements including PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2, CO, NH3,ozone and Pb. In practical deployments, air-quality monitoring projects typically involve solution providers and system integrators tasked with combining multiple sensor types and communication interfaces, driving demand for flexible sensing solutions that support multi-pollutant integration and IoT protocols such as Wi-Fi and LoRaWAN.
In response to the rising demand for accurate and reliable outdoor particulate monitoring, Cubic, a leading manufacturer of gas sensors and analyzers, has leveraged the mature light scattering technology platform to specially develop the outdoor particulate matter sensor PM3006S series for the measurement ofPM1.0, PM2.5, PM4.25, PM10 and TSP, providing real-time data that can adapt to windy, dusty and fast-changing outdoor environments.
Based on Cubic advanced auto particle identification (API) technology, the PM3006Sdelivers high-precision measurements simultaneously and features a wide measurement range of 0–30,000 μg/m³.The API technology enables the sensor to adapt to concentration changes from different dust sources and achieve accuracy levels comparable to beta-ray method, making it suitable for reliable particulate monitoring across harsh outdoor environments. In addition, through matrix calibration and intelligent algorithms, the PM3006S maintains excellent linearity and stability across varying ambient conditions. With high-power industrial-grade laser and a robust sampling fan, the device actively pulls in air at a stable flow rate, providing a consistent sample to the optical chamber and securing both accuracy and repeatability in particulate detection. Connecting to the heater helps eliminate the influence of high humidity and mist, further improving outdoor measurement stability. In addition to the core features, the integrated voltage-regulator design, EMC hardening and strong anti-static capability provide extra protection for stable and durable outdoor performance.
As outdoor dust-sensing technologies become increasingly important for urban air management, with over 20 years of experience in the R&D of gas-sensing technology, Cubic dust monitoring solution provides accurate air-quality data that support street-level and roadside monitoring in fast-changing environments, helping local authorities better track air conditions and guide management actions.
