With the evolution of intelligent and electrified mobility, vehicles are no longer merely transportation tools but increasingly function as mobile living spaces. The in-cabin air quality has become a critical factor influencing occupant comfort, health, and overall driving experience. As OEMs pursue smarter HVAC systems and more compact electronic architectures, multi-parameter integrated air quality sensing solutions have emerged as a clear market trend.
Integration is driven by practical system-level needs, of reducing installation space, lowering BOM and wiring complexity, improving data consistency, and enabling faster, more accurate HVAC control decisions. Compared with discrete sensors, integrated sensing solutions offer clear advantages in space efficiency, cost optimization, system performance, and functional scalability, making them particularly suitable for modern vehicle platforms.
Leveraging over 20 years of expertise in gas sensing technology and abundant experience in automotive-grade manufacturing, Cubic provides flexible, integrated cabin air quality sensing solutions built on self-developed core technologies. As an automotive Tier 1 supplier, Cubic designs and manufactures key components in-house—including optical modules, MEMS structures, gas-sensitive materials, and electronics—enabling different sensing elements to be combined efficiently into compact, vehicle-ready modules. The vertical integration is the foundation that allows Cubic to deliver customizable yet mature combinations with proven mass-production experience.
Cubic integrated cabin air quality sensing solutions include:
-PM2.5 + CO2 For In-Cabin Air Quality MonitoringCubic also offers extended combinations such as PM2.5 + AQS + temperature & humidity, depending on HVAC control logic and vehicle positioning
For in-cabin monitoring, Cubic integrates PM2.5 sensor based on light scattering technology with CO2 sensor adopting advanced Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) technology. The combination targets the two most representative cabin air quality indicators, particulate concentration and occupant-generated CO2, enabling intelligent ventilation and air purification strategies. Features such as automotive-grade CAN communication, automatic CO2 calibration, and stable long-term performance support reliable operation under dynamic driving conditions.
For air intake detection, Cubic combines PM2.5 sensor with an Air Quality Sensor (AQS) based on MEMS MOX technology. The PM sensor adopts a constant-speed airflow design and optical optimization to ensure consistent particle detection, while Cubic’s proprietary particle recognition algorithms support accurate classification of PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10. The AQS sensor, built on Cubic’s self-developed micro hot plate and gas-sensitive materials, enables multi-gas detection including CO and NO2, and air quality grading, supporting fast and intelligent fresh-air intake decisions. Thanks to the integrated airflow design, the system achieves faster response and improved control efficiency.
Beyond configurations, Cubic’s key strength lies in flexibility and maturity. Different sensing elements can be modularly combined based on OEM requirements, and main combinations are built on a common technology platform and have been adopted for mass production in real-world automotive applications. The Cubic’s mature experience in customization significantly helps OEMs reduce development risk and shortens OEM integration cycles.
Cubic automotive air quality sensing solutions are developed in compliance with AEC-Q100 and EMC standards, supported by software processes aligned with ASPICE requirements. Cubic is also certified to IATF 16949, with established automated batch manufacturing capabilities, ensuring consistent quality, reliability, and supply stability for large-scale automotive deployment.
As wellness-oriented and intelligent mobility continues to evolve, integrated air quality sensing will become a core differentiator for next-generation vehicles. With self-developed core technologies, flexible integration strategies, and proven automotive-grade manufacturing, Cubic is well positioned to support OEMs and system integrators in delivering cleaner, safer, and more intelligent cabin environments through scalable and future-ready sensing solutions.
